Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for
response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County
Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report
possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged
victims for this column.
Monday, Jan. 5: A traffic collision occurred in the vicinity of Bell and
Pope in Wilbur.
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of SR 231 and Detour Road,
where fog was especially thick. One vehicle ended up in a ditch. No one
was reported injured.
Two young men observed driving on Geostar Drive near Grand Coulee
explained to a law officer that they got out of their vehicle to check
residences where they could “make money by shoveling snow off of driveways.”
Deputies located a 27-year-old woman whose mother had reported missing
after hearing that she may have been abducted at gunpoint from the
Porcupine Bay area.
A collision involving a vehicle and deer was reported on SR 28 about
three miles east of Odessa.
Deputies arrested an individual after responding to a report of possible
domestic violence in the 500 block of West 2nd Street in Sprague.
Tuesday, Jan. 6: A Davenport woman reported a dog problem in the 30
block of Merriam Street.
About $850 in cash and wedding rings were reported stolen from a
residence in the 700 block of Twelfth Street in Davenport.
Wilbur Police investigated the theft of 1x4s from a large wood stack in
the 200 block of SW Main.
U-Haul personnel asked Wilbur Police for assistance in recovering a 4x8
trailer that was last seen at the now-defunct Midtown Tire. It was
located in the 100 block of SW County Road.
Wednesday, Jan. 7: Sprague ambulance personnel assisted an elderly man
who may have suffered broken ribs after being kicked by a calf.
Deputies attempted to find a man’s vehicle along Bluestem Road near
Coleman Road after encountering him walking alongside the roadway. He
reportedly told the officer that he had been in a fight with his
girlfriend, began walking, leaving his vehicle behind with a dead battery.
A pickup truck hit a patch of ice and slid off Green Canyon Road near
its intersection with Mill Canyon Road, striking some farm equipment. A
woman passenger was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence
and was taken by Davenport ambulance to Lincoln Hospital. A road sign
also was damaged.
A caller told dispatchers he almost hit a man pushing a bicycle on SR 2
near the Apostolic Lutheran church north of Davenport.
A truck pulling a boat trailer slid off a very icy U.S. 2 near Reardan.
Thursday, Jan. 8: Weather issues resulted in a two-hour delay to the
start of classes in the Davenport School District.
Loose cattle were reported in the vicinity of Watson and Rosman roads.
Odessa Police responded to the 300 block of West 4th Avenue, where an
incident of malicious mischief involving a juvenile was reported.
Friday, Jan. 9: A Wilbur man requested assistance with removing three
“unwanted” individuals from property adjacent to SR 21.
Dispatchers were advised that an irate customer had made threats against
US Bank personnel in Davenport.
A responding deputy determined that items being burned in the 600 block
of Maxwell Street in Davenport were made of wood, not plastic as a
caller had told dispatchers.
Someone stole the “Eagleview Lane” sign from the private road that
connects with SR 231 just south of the Spokane County line.
A Harrington man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the
influence after Odessa Police responded to reports of vehicles being on
the airport runway. A second arrest also was reported.
Saturday, Jan. 10: Harrington ambulance personnel assisted an
84-year-old woman who had a diabetic reaction.
Deputies investigated a reported illegal dumping of materials on Jahn
Road between Deking and Scharff roads.
A collision involving a vehicle and deer took place on SR 28 a few miles
north of Odessa.
Dispatchers referred to mental health personnel a report of a
13-year-old girl who had expressed “suicidal tendencies.”
Davenport ambulance personnel assisted an 80-year-old man who fell and
may have suffered a stroke at a residence in the 1000 block of Sixth Street.
Deputies investigated a possible narcotics-related matter in the
vicinity of Morgan and Third streets in Davenport.
A caller reported hearing gunshots in the vicinity of the 32700 block of
Creston Butte Road.
Sunday, Jan. 11: Wilbur ambulance assisted an 84-year-old man suffering
chest pains at a residence in the 13500 block of Keller Lane East.
Creston ambulance assisted an 82-year-old woman showing flu-like
symptoms at a residence in the 100 block of NE Creston Avenue.
An Odessa area resident was cited for animal at-large after a loose
horse was observed in the vicinity of Alder and County Road.
After receiving a suspicious message on Facebook claiming she had won a
sum of money, a Sprague woman determined it was false and asked deputies
to assist in what she viewed as possible harassment.
Someone wrote an obscene message in snow in the 300 block of South 1st
in Harrington.

Diana Kate Hoppes, 32, Davenport, is charged with second-degree theft in
connection with incidents between Dec. 22 and Jan. 11 during which more
than $600 was taken, along with two wedding rings, from a residence and
adjoining business in the 700 block of Twelfth Street. Deputies
recovered the rings from a Spokane pawn shop.
New Juvenile Offender Matter
A 16-year-old Reardan boy is charged with communication with a minor for
immoral purposes in connection with an incident involving a 12-year-old
girl and the use of an electronic communication device.
