Attie Turner house added to H. Register of Historical Houses
January 14, Mayor Paul Gilliland opened the Harrington City Council meeting with City Clerk Bunny Haugan, Scott McGowan and four councilmen present: Peter Davenport, Rick Becker, Levi Schenk and Michael Cronrath. In addition, visitors included Celeste Miller, Sharon Schultz, Marge Womach, Jay Gossett, and Paul Charlton.
Celeste Miller, representing the Harrington Historic Preservation Commission, brought the nomination of the Attie Turner house for the local Register of Historical Houses. This 1918 home, now owned by Paul and Peggy Charlton, used to be owned by the late Rev. and Mrs. Roger Muisiner. The Mayor recommended the nomination and the council voted for this house to be added to the local register. Celeste also informed the city council that she had not yet received the final draft from Studio Cascade regarding the updating of the 2000+ plan for the revitalization of the downtown district of Harrington.
Other topics of discussion included the condition of a drainage ditch wall that tipped over, the Senior Meal rental agreement and Empire Disposal’s fuel surcharge. The council worked on the 2014 Revised Budget which was adopted with a 4-0 vote.
