Freshmen at Harrington High School recently celebrated entrepreneurship by participating in a Business Plan Challenge sponsored by the Lincoln County Economic Development Council. The challenge was for students to consider our region’s strengths and opportunities and then develop plans for businesses that they could open and operate here.
Harrington High Business instructor Sharon Kruger, joined by Margie Hall and Joyce Mings from the EDC, kicked off the project back in November during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Last week EDC staff returned to the classroom to enjoy live presentations of six business plans developed by 10 students. The business ideas were well thought out with the freshmen taking the “think local” theme very seriously. Students included details such as business goals, target audience, and marketing strategy.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is an annual salute to business creation and small business ownership. This project was intended to introduce the students to the idea of starting their own businesses and is tied to the EDC’s ongoing efforts to slow youth outmigration.
