Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Wanna buy a paper?
The time has come for the current owners of this newspaper to give serious thought to retirement. We have run The Odessa Record for seven years, plus the years spent working under the previous owner Don Walter. It has been mostly a rewarding and fulfilling endeavor, despite the weekly deadlines and hectic nature of the business.
But the time has come to think about slowing down. Our purpose in moving back to Odessa was to be closer to family and to help out our elderly mother. The newspaper takes up way too much of our time, and family has unfortunately taken a back seat. We need to change that.
We are hoping to find a local person interested in running the paper and keeping our readers happy with their favorite news items and features. Experience in journalism or a related field would certainly be helpful but is not a requirement. A solid grasp of English grammar and spelling is a must, of course. Knowledge of computer applications is also necessary in this new techno-age. Experience running a business is also extremely desirable.
Local talent would certainly be our first choice for someone to continue the legacy of The Odessa Record, but if no one shows any interest, we may have to expand our search to other areas.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in finding out more about the operation of the paper, please call and make an appointment to have a conversation with us.
