At the midmonth meeting of the city council held at the Town Hall last Monday night, favorable action was taken upon the petition of citizens asking for street lights on various streets. The council ordered the lights installed immediately.
The success of the Germans in east Prussia emphasizes, according to the view held there, the quiet strategy of Field Marshal von Hindenburng, which is designed to strike an enemy when and where the blow is least expected.
Fred G. Jasmann has been appointed field deputy by the county assessor and will assess the Odessa country.
Peter Jensen is fitting out his new building, just recently completed, with a blacksmith outfit.
J.W. Laney returned from Olympia, and reported that a bill was introduced in the house for a state road from Harrington west through Lamona, to Odessa, Krupp and Ephrata.
The Odessa Hardware & Implement company received a carload of Ford autos yesterday, the first of four carloads which they are to ship in this year. The company has also ordered another carload of Buicks which are to be shipped from the Buick factory tomorrow.
Miss Mae Patterson, formerly of Odessa, has purchased the Sue Perkins Millinery store in Davenport and will open it the first of March. Miss Patterson is a sister to Mrs. B.J. Lyons of this city.

The 26th annual Firemen’s Ball will be held at the Odessa city hall, one of the leading social events of the spring season. The original Don Rule’s orchestra has been secured and tickets have been sold in advance by firemen. Money is used to improve equipment.
The city street crew started work on the new bridge to span Duck Lake draw, replacing the one taken out by high water recently.
The bridge, to include concrete abutments and piers, will be built by joint county and city funds. The channel through the bridge will be scraped out.

More spadework to explore the possibilities of bringing approximately 75,000 acres of dryland Wilson Creek area farmland under irrigation via the East High Canal of the Columbia Basin Project was accomplished in Ephrata last Monday at the Grant County Commissioners’s meeting .
County commissioners received a request from a group of 10 Wilson Creek farmers that their group be given official status to proceed with plans to sound out area sentiment for possible inclusion in the basin project boundaries, the Grant County Journal reports.
If it is found, according to Walter Fiess, who headed the Wilson Creek contingent, that the reasction of area landowners is favorable, a petition will be circulated requesting such inclusion. The area under consideration is about 18 miles long and covers about 75,000 irrigable acres atarting at Black Rock Coulee on the south and extending north of Wilson Creek for about 10 miles.

Parkside Day Care announced its sponsorship of the USDA Child Care Food Program administered by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The state agency assures that meals will be made abvailable to enrolled children at no separate charge, without any kind of discrimination.
Parents’ income determines the amount of money the SPI office will reimburse the day care program for providing meals to enrolled children.

Consolidated Disposal Service, Inc., which has contracted for solid waste pickup service starting March 1, began to distribute new garbage auto carts to each Odessa household on Tuesday. The Odessa garbage truck made its last run this week.
Miss Odessa contestants began practice in the multipurpose room. Contestants this year are: Sara Fink, Andrea Largent, Alesia Best and Andrea Kuch.
