VFW Post and Auxiliary 7395 are proud to announce the winners of their Jr. Essay, Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy contests for 2014.
Jr. essays are written by grades three through five and this is a post, district and state program.The winners this year are: third grade, first place, Charlie Nixon; second place, Jacob Scrupps; and third place, Destiny Wiles. Fourth grade winners are: first place a tie between Sarah Hayashi and Collin Martin; and third place, Isaiah Chavez. Fifth grade winners are: first place, Emily Nixon; second place, Nathan Carstenson; and third place, Emily Scrupps.
Patriots Pen is for grades six through eight. This is a post, district, state and national program. First place went to David Hayashi and second went to Jonathan Hayashi.
Voice of Democracy is a high school program that requires a written paper and a three to five minute audio presentation. It is judged on the audio portion. This is a post, district, state and national program. The winner is Elizabeth Hayashi.
The District 13 winners for these same programs are: third grade, first place, Bridget Jones, Quincy; second place, Jacob Scrupps, Odessa; third place Charlie Nixon, Odessa; fourth grade, first place, Mya Nguyen, Quincy; second place, Sarah Hayashi, Odessa; third place, Collin Martin, Odessa; fifth grade, first place, Collette Nichols, Ritzville; second place, Emily Nixon, Odessa.
Patriots Pen winners are: first place, Benjamin Clinesmith, Ritzville; second place, John Harder, Ritzville; and third place, Linnea Schafer, Ritzville.
