A permit that allows the use of pesticides to control mosquitoes in and near water is being proposed for re-issue with minor changes. The public is invited to learn more at public meetings and provide feedback.
The permit is an important tool for protecting public health and the environment. It allows mosquito control districts to legally spray to control larvae and adult mosquitoes. It protects water quality and allows spraying for both nuisance and disease-carrying mosquitoes.
The Department of Ecology will hold public workshops about the permit:
* Kennewick on April 7
* Moses Lake on April 8
* Longview on April 9
Visit Ecology’s website at http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/pesticides/final_pesticide_permits/mosquito/index.html for information on the public meetings and to find out how to submit comments. The comment period ends at 5 p.m. on April 17.
