Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, March 16: A vehicle was reported in the ditch on U.S. 2 near Davenport. Its driver told deputies he fell asleep and the vehicle high-centered.

A Harrington resident reported threats being made.

A lock was reported cut off a gate in the vicinity of the 19500 block of Boyk Road north of Davenport.

Tuesday, March 17: A bag of marijuana was recovered from a male inmate being held in the county jail under contract with the state Department of Corrections.

Confronted by a local resident, occupants of a vehicle spotted in the Bowie Road area near Reardan said they were delivering soil samples to Crop Production Services, but the establishment’s manager was suspicious and speculated there could be a connection with a recent theft at the Reardan Seed Co.

A deputy returned a runaway juvenile boy to his Davenport residence.

Wednesday, March 18: Several false 911 calls were found to have been placed by a child playing with the phone.

Three men, possibly intoxicated, were observed nagging on windows and urinating on fuel pumps at K&L Chevron in Sprague. A responding deputy determined no alcohol was involved and that they had lost a bolt from an oil pan.

A Hawk Creek Ranch Road resident reported horses were coming onto his property at night and leaving a mess behind. The owner was advised that the area was not designated as open range, so he must keep his horses contained.

Two wreckers were dispatched after a UPS vehicle became stuck on Titchenal Road west of Waukon.

Thursday, March 19: A Wilbur man reported receiving a phone message that fraudulently claimed he owed back taxes and would hear from the sheriff’s office if he didn’t pay. Similar reports were received from other individuals during the next couple of days.

A malfunctioning railroad crossing arm was reported at Larabee Street in Edwall.

Christian Heritage School in Edwall was “locked down” briefly while deputies responded to a report of a “suspicious” individual walking on the school property. The individual explained he was in the process of capturing a domestic turkey.

Sprague’s mayor denied allegations that he had sent out municipal workers with guns to “hunt down” the suspect in the child abduction incident that generated local and national attention earlier this month.

An Almira man reported that two dogs had killed his goat in the vicinity of Govan Road North.

A woman was advised by a deputy to turn down loud music in the 1200 block of Eighth Street in Davenport.

A caller told dispatchers he saw a naked woman just starting to put on purple underwear while standing with three men on a dock at Twin Lakes.

Deputies checked out a report of a domestic dispute in the 900 block of Maxwell Street in Davenport.

A woman was arrested after a caller reported seeing a possibly intoxicated individual “acting weird” in and outside her vehicle parked in the 300 block of South Colfax in Sprague. Three juveniles were with the woman and placed in the custody of other relatives.

Deputies arrested an Airway Heights man after responding to a report of possible drunken driving in the vicinity of Harrington High School.

Friday, March 20: A cow was killed as a result of a collision with a vehicle on Williams Lake Road about two miles from Old Sprague Highway Road.

An Odessa area woman said someone opened multiple doors at her Downs Road North residence, allowing her dogs to get out. She also reported that four chickens had been shot.

Three teenagers were involved in a one-vehicle collision at Tramm and Euclid roads northeast of Reardan.

Saturday, March 21: Creston ambulance personnel assisted a man who broke his ankle after stepping out of a truck parked at The McGregor Co. in Creston.

A caller told dispatchers he confronted two women going through and taking things from a house and barn near Harrington Airport and Scott roads. He said they explained they work for a Spokane historical museum and thought the property had been abandoned.

A Seven Bays resident reported that three juveniles continually ran up to a large bay window in her home on Park Avenue and banged on it before running off when she tried to confront them.

A Wilbur resident returning to his residence in the 200 block of SW Regent found a window had been broken out. Local police searched the house and determined that no entry had been made.

Sunday, March 22: A caller reported seeing a bearded man “wrapped up in a white blanket” hitchhiking on McRae Road near Riffe Road in the Reardan area.

Juveniles were observed tearing up grout used to repair the Davenport High School tennis courts. One caller said that four kids of third, fourth and fifth grade age were involved.

An injured deer walking in the roadway on U.S. 2 a few miles east of Creston forced vehicles to have to swerve to avoid collisions.

Criminal Sentencing

Susan D. Hanks, 38, Harrington, pleaded guilty March 17 to second-degree criminal assistance. As a result of plea negotiations, a charge of endangerment with a controlled substance was withdrawn by the prosecuting attorney. Her sentence included two days in jail, a $5,000 suspended fine, $700 court costs, 12 months probation and a prohibition against possession and use of non-prescribed drugs. She was accused of hiding a man being sought by law enforcement on Dec. 13 of last year.

New Criminal Cases

Danny Ray Larson, 40, Spokane, is charged with violating a restraining order (third or subsequent violation) in connection with a domestic violence incident on March 5 at a Sprague residence.

Bobbie Jo Rose, 36, Davenport, is charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana in connection with a Jan. 10 incident near the Davenport car wash on Morgan Street.

New Civil Case

A March 31 hearing is scheduled to determine the merits of a 46-year-old Reardan woman’s petition as a “vulnerable adult” that requests a protection order against a 26-year-old Reardan woman. A temporary protection order is in place for the time being.
