Plinski says no to third term

As the filing date approaches for next fall’s general election, incumbents and interested candidates must begin thinking about whether or not to throw their hats into the political ring.

Mayor Doug Plinski announced at Monday night’s meeting of the Odessa Town Council that he will not run for another term as Odessa’s mayor. He has served for the past eight years and said he wanted to have more “grandpa time.” His wife, Nancy, will also soon retire from her job at Odessa’s hospital, and the couple will want to spend some time traveling and enjoying retirement, he said.

Plinski also polled those council members who will be up for re-election to see what their thoughts were. Council positions 1, 2 and 5 are up for re-election this year. Frank White, representing position #2 has opted not to run for another term, but Lois Hubbard (#1) and Marlene Kramer (#5) have each agreed to run again.

Anyone interested in running for any of the council positions or for mayor, said Plinski, is encouraged to begin attending council meetings as soon as possible to familiarize themselves with the issues facing the council.
