Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Spring Fling made Odessa into a "hoppin' town" this past weekend, as the quilt show, garage/yard sales and horseshoe tournament drew visitors from near and far. The quilt show held at the high school gymnasium Friday and Saturday drew avid quilters as well as those who simply appreciate the talent that goes into quilt-making.
The show's featured quilter was Kathy Conway of Waites Lake, Wash., who displayed many of her own quilts. The traveling trunk show known as the Hoffman Fabric Challenge was also represented. Downtown businesses participated in the Downtown Quilt Walk by displaying the work of local quilters in their establishments. Quilting demonstrations were also held throughout the two-day event.
The Green Goat Gallery displayed art of a different sort as it opened up to highlight the work of proprietor Nate Lathrop and other artists of his acquaintance. Local student Kimberly Nelson also displayed her artwork and was complimented when folks kept asking if they could buy what she had created as homework for a class.
The Odessa Horseshoe Club, despite a brisk, cool wind, drew participants from Ferndale to Omak. In Class A play, Les Myers was first and Jerry Conklin second. Both are from the Tri-Cities. In Class B, Mike Watchers placed first, with Candy Reeves second. Both are from Spokane. In Class C, Robert Christensen of Omak was first, while Sharon McLaughlin of Spokane was second. The next state-sanctioned tournament will be held October 3, and a horseshoes clinic will also be held during Deutschesfest in September.
Yard sales did a brisk business, as spring cleaning resulted in many folks getting rid of unwanted items.
