Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
On Friday, May 1, at 9 a.m. the Book-It Repertory Theatre will return to the Odessa Schools for a third time to present Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for grades K-8. The play will be presented in the multi-purpose room of the school. Parents of students are welcome to attend. It is most suitable for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. As we learned last year, the adults greatly enjoyed the evening presentation of The Phantom Tollbooth, too.
The Book-It Repertory Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming great literature into great theatre through simple and sensitive production and to inspire its audiences to read. One can learn more about the history and sponsors of this Seattle-based theater at http://www.book-it.org. There you can read about the history behind the Book-It Repertory Theatre and see its many sponsors, including the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation.
Book-It’s Arts and Education Program makes every effort to follow the guidelines for using research-based practices in teaching reading. Students understand literature best when they can interact with it. That is why Odessa’s Title 1-A/LAP program makes every effort to bring these kinds of events to our local students. We believe theatre is just one way to enhance academic success for children by providing cultural experiences in the form of plays.
