Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

'Paint the Town Purple' contest

The Lincoln County Relay for Life event is a little over a month away. The June 12 community event celebrates cancer survivors and remembers loved ones lost. Relay teams also raise funds for cancer research and support through various activities before and during the event.

In an effort to raise awareness about the event, the Lincoln County Relay for Life committee lead, Gina Halme, is organizing a competition for businesses in Lincoln County.

“’Paint the Town Purple’ is an opportunity for local businesses to show support for the Lincoln County Relay for Life and the survivors in our communities,” Halme said. “Cancer is something we’re all affected by and we have so many community members battling it right now. This is a way to outwardly show them support.”

Businesses are encouraged to decorate their storefronts with purple, the global color representing all cancers, Relay for Life decor and superhero-themed decorations. The contest will run from May 13 – June 13.

Halme said businesses will be judged by the planning committee and there will be one winning business per town. Also, the town with the most business participation will receive a plaque and accolades during the Relay event on June 12 and 13. Judges will be looking for businesses that have used the color purple, made the decorations as visible as possible, and have utilized the Superhero theme of this year’s Relay event, as well as a focus on creativity and spreading awareness of cancer and Relay for Life.

More information about the Paint the Town Purple contest will be mailed directly to businesses in Lincoln County. If you would like to participate or need more information contact Gina Halme at 509-370-9608 or email ghalme4.gh@gmail.com.
