Tennis
Katie DeWulf, the sole member of the O-H tennis team to qualify for the state tournament, went to the Yakima Tennis Club last weekend. She won her first match against Jasmine Nesbitt of King's Way Christian, 6-7, 6-3 (after which Nesbitt withdrew). DeWulf lost her second match to Kellie Kuch of Cascade, 6-1, 6-2. Moving into the loser's bracket, she lost to Darby Fox of Colville 6-1, 6-3 and was eliminated from further competition. It was only her second year of competitive tennis, and she aquitted herself well.
Track & Field
The state track and field meet for students from 1B, 2B and 1A high schools was held last weekend at Eastern Washington University. The following students from the Odessa-Harrington Athletic Cooperative were awarded medals (first eight places in each event).
Sam Schafer led the way with three first-place finishes and a second place. He was first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.51, first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.30, first in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.50 and second in the triple jump at 41-05.75.
Jordyn Tanke took second in the 100 meters in 13.37, second in the 200 meters in 27.72 and eighth 300-m hurdles in 52.57.
John Dewulf placed fourth in the triple jump at 40-04.25 and sixth in the pole vault at 11-00.00.
Shelbey Watkins placed seventh in the 100-m hurdles in 17.91.
Lanessa Simon was third in the long jump at 15-09.00 and third in the triple jump at 32-08.00.
Casey Schlomer placed 5th in the discus at 97-01.
Placing in the top 15 but out of medal contention were:
Casey Schlomer, 12th in the pole vault at 6-00.00 and 11th in the javelin at 90-10.
Lanessa Simon, 10th in the pole vault at 6-06.00 and 13th in the high jump at 4-06.00.
Aaron Gies, ninth in the 110-m hurdles.
Jordyn Tanke, 11th in the 100-m hurdles.
Shelbey Watkins, 14th in the 300-m hurdles.
Gaven Elder, 13th in the 100 meters.
4x100 relay team, 11th (Tyler Paris, Cole Kissler, Aaron Gies and Gaven Elder).
Colby Sooy, 11th in the discus at 108-02 and 15th in the shot put at 34-10.25.
John Dewulf, ninth in the javelin at 133-06.
Jenna Shafer, 13th in the discus at 79-05.
