The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Monday, Aug. 10: Wilbur ambulance personnel assisted an elderly woman who fell.

An individual who had a campfire going in the vicinity of Miles Creston and Hume roads north of Davenport was advised of the burn ban in place. The fire was extinguished.

Deputies responded to a Creston woman’s report that she found doors at her residence unlocked.

Sunglasses worth about $270 were reported stolen from a car parked on Mill Canyon Road.

Dispatchers and deputies responded to a Davenport woman’s fears that she was about to be murdered.

A recklessly driven vehicle traveling south on SR 25 from Egypt was reportedly passing in no-passing zones and came close to running two motorcycles from the roadway.

Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Washington Street in Davenport.

A Creston caller reported a heifer had been shot and killed in the vicinity of Watson Road East.

A dead goat was reported to have been dumped in a creek on property in the Mill Canyon area.

Davenport firefighters responded to a lightning-caused fire on farmland adjacent to Knack Road East.

Dust in the air reduced visibility between U.S. 2 from the Davenport airport to Mountain View Cemetery Road.

Firefighters from Davenport, Harrington, Odessa, Creston and Wilbur, assisted by the state Department of Natural Resources with aerial support, battled a large fire adjacent to Seven Springs Dairy Road.

A man was observed doing pushups in the middle of the roadway on SR 25 near Teel Hill Road about three miles north of Davenport.

A tree fell into a power line, knocking it down onto Fourth Street between Maxwell and Main streets in Davenport. Traffic was blocked for a time while local firefighters and a Avista Utilities crew worked the scene.

A man was placed into custody after deputies responded to an assault report from the 300 block of West Sherlock in Harrington. During the incident, an individual was observed throwing items from a window and a man was almost hit with a brick.

Tuesday, Aug. 11: Firefighters from Creston, Lincoln and Wilbur responded to a fire about a quarter-mile south of Johnny George Mountain.

A Davenport man reported a phone call from someone attempting to scam him out of money.

Deputies responded to a report of possible sexual assault in the Harrington area.

Deputies joined Creston ambulance and MedStar aerial transport personnel to help a 52-year-old man with breathing difficulties and described as combative.

Responding to the 10 block of Main Street, Davenport ambulance personnel assisted a 51-year-old man who fell, hit his head and lost consciousness. The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital.

Wilbur Police assisted in the transport of a 51-year-old man suffering chest pains from the local clinic to Lincoln Hospital in Davenport.

Odessa Police investigated the theft of property from a vehicle parked in the 400 block of East 3rd.

An Odessa woman told officers about a phone call advising she had won a lot of money and wanted to arrange a delivery time with her. She was advised to call 911 if anyone showed up and knocked on her door on the arranged date.

National Park Service personnel were contacted about a 26-foot boat that was beached during the previous night’s storm on the Columbia River north of Two Rivers Casino.

Wednesday, Aug. 12: Large chunks of asphalt were discovered in the roadway on SR 21 near Wilbur.

The theft of equipment worth about $1,800 and ground wire was reported at the locations of three cell phone towers south of Reardan.

No one was reported hurt as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Morgan Street near Pioneer Plaza in Davenport. One of the drivers told deputies he had stopped for a pedestrian in the crosswalk and was rear-ended by a vehicle directly behind him.

A deputy encountered a man walking along U.S. 2 in the vicinity of Virgil Road near Davenport after a caller phoned in concern the man, who appeared overdressed given the heat, was staggering and may have been in distress.

A woman traveling north on SR 25 near Davenport told dispatchers that a man in a pickup truck pulled in front of her, causing her to stop, then got out and “screamed” at her until she finally was able to get away.

Dispatchers were advised of a possible sex offense that took place in the Interstate 90 rest area at Sprague.

Thursday, Aug. 13: A Davenport man reported a scam phone call from someone who advised he had qualified for a trip, then asked his age and credit card number.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe was advised of a railroad crossing guard reported down near Harrington.

A two-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. 2 at Rocklyn Road west of Davenport.

A logging truck became disabled on SR 21 near Wilbur, blocking both lanes of traffic for a time.

Firefighters from Wilbur, Almira and Creston responded to a fire on U.S. 2.

Equipment from an Inland Power and Light Co. truck got loose and dropped onto the windshield of a nearby pickup truck while both were traveling east through Davenport on U.S. 2. A deputy connected with both drivers who stopped at Trader’s Express to exchange information.

A man was placed into custody after deputies and National Park Service rangers responded to a report of someone driving under the influence of marijuana on SR 25 near Fort Spokane and Porcupine Bay campground.

Responding to the vicinity of Bull Run Road north of Reardan, deputies joined personnel from the Spokane Tribe, National Park Service, a Spokane County Sheriff’s dive team and MedStar aerial ambulance in a search for a 31-year-old man presumed drowned after being under the water for about 15 minutes while swimming near Moccasin Bay and Laughbon Landing. His body was recovered near Little Falls Dam.

A caller reported a suspicious pile of rocks on property adjacent to Johns Rocky Way northwest of Davenport.

A vehicle, apparently traveling too fast, failed to negotiate a corner on SR 21 south of Odessa and went into a ditch.

Wilbur Police stopped a boat-hauling truck that had blown a tire and was spotted running on its rims on one side while traveling on Sherman Draw Road.

Following it from Davenport to Rocklyn Road, a deputy kept an eye on a semi-truck a caller observed traveling at high speeds, passing two to three other vehicles at a time and tailgating while headed west on U.S. 2.

Firefighters from Davenport, Lincoln, Egypt, Seven Bays, Creston and Wilbur battled a lightning-caused blaze in Hawk Creek Estates north of Davenport.

Odessa Police investigated a local resident’s claim that a credit card had been used for a $283 transaction at a store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Odessa Police responded to a report of an argument and fight in the 200 block of West 2nd Avenue.

Reardan Police responded to a two-vehicle non-injury collision at U.S. 2 and SR 231.

Friday, Aug. 14: Reardan emergency and Davenport ambulance personnel assisted a 62-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke. He was transported by MedStar aerial ambulance to a Spokane hospital.

Local youths may have been involved in “suspicious” activity that included knocking on doors and attempting to waken residents in the 600 block of Tenth Street in Davenport and knocking down signs in the sidewalk construction zone on Seventh Street.

Deputies cited a man for illegal dumping after receiving a report that someone had been placing trash in other people’s receptacles in the 300 block of Washington Street in Davenport.

A caller reported finding a hypodermic needle in an alley behind the 300 block of Adams Street in Davenport.

Two vehicles believed to be from Moses Lake continually travel through Almira at high speeds and race side-by-side on a curvy hill beyond the railroad tracks on Old Coulee Road.

A mother pit bull and three puppies, believed poisoned with antifreeze on Aug. 7 in the 300 block of Colfax Street in Sprague, died during the past three days.

An injured baby deer found in an alley behind the 200 block of West 5th Street in Sprague had to be put down.

Four women selling clothes and/or magazines while going door-to-door in Davenport prompted calls of concern from residents in the vicinity of Fifth and Maxwell streets. A responding deputy determined the saleswomen had a business license.

Responding to the 300 block of Morgan Street, Davenport ambulance personnel assisted a 17-year-old girl who suffered a possible seizure.

After CenturyLink personnel delayed their response to three phone lines observed sagging over the roadway at 4th and H streets in Sprague, local firefighters requested assistance from Avista Utilities, which took control of the scene.

Occupants of a vehicle spotted near the Lamona cemetery told a local resident who happened upon them that they preferred to “shoot up” on methamphetamine in a rural area “because people in towns don’t like that.”

Two deputies responded to the vicinity of Brown Road and Old Sprague Highway, where a woman described as “unruly” was put off an Amtrak train. She reportedly threw rocks at the train after leaving it. The deputies waited until a friend was able to pick her up by car.

National Park Service personnel responded when an apparently disabled boat occupied by possibly stranded individuals waving their arms and a flag while yelling on the river near Deer Meadows.

Saturday, Aug. 15: A citation was scheduled to be mailed to the owner of cows that keep getting into neighboring fields that had been newly seeded with wheat near Odessa.

Sprague ambulance personnel responded to the scene of a vehicle becoming entangled with a fence along Interstate 90.

Deputies and local firefighters responded to a report of illegal fireworks being discharged in the vicinity of F and 1st streets in Sprague.

Wilbur Police and other law enforcement officers were unsuccessful in their effort to stop a vehicle traveling west at more than 100 miles per hour on U.S. 2 between Wilbur and Grand Coulee.

After firefighters from Davenport and Egypt had been notified, responding deputies couldn’t find a fire that had been reported near the intersection of SR 25 and Porcupine Bay Road.

Dispatchers were advised that someone may be selling methamphetamine in the Reardan area.

A man was placed into custody after deputies responded to a report of a domestic assault in the 300 block of Washington Street in Davenport.

A caller requested an ambulance for a 63-year-old Davenport woman she believed may be bleeding internally after a recent traffic collision.

A man was found sleeping between the fog line and a guardrail on SR 23 near the Viking eatery in Sprague. A Washington State Patrol trooper gave him a courtesy ride to Ritzville.

Reardan Police responded to a caller’s complaint of “extremely loud noise” continuously coming from a TV on “all day and into the night” in the 300 block of East Columbia.

An illegal fire was reported at a campsite on Lake Roosevelt west of Hanson Harbor.

Sunday, Aug. 16: People stopping to take photos of a brown bear in an adjacent wheat field posed a traffic problem on SR 174 near Wilbur.

Deputies looked for a man described as “acting extremely weird” while approaching residences in the vicinity of SR 25 and Hart Road north of Davenport.

Tow trucks were needed for both vehicles involved in a collision on U.S. 2 near Miles Creston Road west of Davenport.

A collision involving a vehicle and deer was reported at Rocklyn and Coffeepot roads.
