O-H football team wins first home game against Cusick

The Odessa-Harrington football team won their first home game over Deutschesfest weekend with a final score of 42-6 over Cusick.

Gaven Elder scored the first touchdown of the game with a 60-yard run, and Sage Elder scored the two point conversion on a pass from Colton Hunt. Cusick responded with a TD but no extra points.

In the second quarter, G. Elder scored another TD on a 35-yard pass from Hunt, with no extra points. The next three TDs were scored by S. Elder in the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively, with G. Elder scoring the two-point conversion in the second quarter on a pass by Hunt with no time left on the clock. The final TD of the game was scored by G. Elder with S. Elder making the two-point conversion on a pass by Hunt.

In an overview of the game offensively, Sage Elder had 29 carries for 237 yards and two TDs and one pass reception for 12 yards and one TD. Defensively, he had seven tackles, caused one fumble and made one fumble recovery. Gaven Elder had nine carries for 124 yards and two TDs and four pass receptions for 85 yards and one TD. Colton Hunt went 5 for 10 passing for a total of 97 yards and assisted with two TDs. He had no interceptions.

On defense, John DeWulf and Dylan Shockley both had seven tackles and one sack, while Patrick Valverde had one interception.

Unfortunately, there was one injury when Jayd Jennings suffered a dislocated shoulder.

The Titans managed to hold Cusick to 6 points the entire game, whereas in Cusick’s previous two games they had scored 70 or more points.

“In all likelihood we will see Cusick again in the playoffs” said head coach Jeff Nelson.
