Court Report

SUPERIOR COURT

John F. Strohmaier, Judge

Criminal Sentencings

Brandon Joel Anderson, 36, Spokane, pleaded guilty Jan. 12 to second-degree theft (amended through plea negotiations from second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and second-degree trafficking in stolen property). His sentence includes 50 days in jail (credit for time already served), $800 court costs and $500 attorney fees. The case involved the theft of tools valued at more than $2,280 from a residence on Lake Street in Reardan between Sept. 15 and 22 of last year.

Averting a second trial for theft of a firearm, Dennis Patrick Reed, 40, Scottsdale, Ariz., pleaded guilty Jan. 12 to an amended charge of unlawful display of a weapon and was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation and $700 court costs. Jail time was deferred for 12 months, when the case would be dismissed as long as no probation or criminal law violations had occurred. The matter went to trial on Dec. 2-3, 2015, but the jury was deadlocked after about two hours and the court ordered a mistrial with the prosecutor expected to schedule a new trial. The case involves an Oct. 12, 2014, incident about 10 miles north of Davenport during which he was accused of pointing a firearm at a neighboring property owner’s guest who Reed believed was trespassing, and taking a rifle and hunting license from him.
