Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Davenport Theatrical will hold auditions for the musical “Big Fish” on March 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Davenport High School Auditorium. Adults of all ages (16+) and genders are needed to fill 10 roles. Auditionees will be taught a song by music director Karen Brewster and a dance by choreographer Lindsey Van Buren and will be asked to read selections from the script. Those auditioning should plan to stay for the entire 90-minute window.
No experience is necessary, and the company hopes to offer roles to volunteers from throughout the region. The musical will be directed by New York City-based director Reesa Graham. In addition to the 10 roles to be filled by local performers, two professional actors will be cast from auditions in New York later this month. They will join Graham as the production’s three guest artists, working alongside and mentoring local volunteers throughout the production process. “This will be an especially exciting opportunity to not only create and have fun,” explains artistic director Karen Brewster, “but also to learn from these theatre professionals, who are coming from across the country to work with us.”
Based on the celebrated novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film directed by Tim Burton, “Big Fish” centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman in rural Alabama. Edward’s incredible, larger-than-life stories thrill everyone around him. But his son Will, about to have a child of his own, is determined to find the truth behind his father’s epic tales.
Those interested in auditioning who cannot attend the March 18 audition should contact Brewster at 509-725-5758.
Davenport Theatrical is a community theater company and Lincoln County’s only nonprofit producing arts organization. The company has mounted 13 productions since 2008. Drew Kowalkowski is the managing director, and Karen Brewster is the artistic director.
