2016 FFA awards presented May 26

The 2016 FFA Awards were given out at the awards night May 26, 2016 at school.

Membership degrees were awarded as follows:

Discovery degrees for junior high membership went to Jakob Starkel, Kaitlyn Zagelow and Ben Melgren, with Starkel receiving the outstanding discovery degree pin.

Greenhand degrees for first-year membership at the high school level went to Isabelle Talancon, Maleah Davison, Garrett Gross, Rochelle Schuh, Anna-Renee Bockman, Theron Schlomer and Lane Lobe. Schuh received the outstanding greenhand pin.

Chapter FFA degrees for second-year high school membership went to Hunter Bramer, Kiegan Wehr, Danielle Tebow, Hannah Sheldon and Patrick Velverde. Sheldon received the outstanding FFA chapter member pin, and Bramer was the outstanding chapter member in placement.

Only two percent of the FFA membership are awarded state FFA degrees at the state convention. Both Max Greenwalt and Caleb Singer of Odessa FFA received this award.

Adults honored by the FFA chapter for their dedication of time to help the students were Jennifer Singer, Shosh Talancon, Marra Schmierer, Tom Schuh, Landon Lobe (wife Deanna accepting for him) and Don Sheldon.

Supervised Agricultural Experience medals

Awards for members’ outstanding projects went to the following:

• Beef Production: Max Greenwalt, Caleb Singer.

• Sheep Production: Alexis Schmierer, Jordan Larmer, Ben Melgren.

• Specialty Animal (composting worm colony) Rochelle Schuh.

• Wildlife Management (pheasants): Lane Lobe.

• Ag Sales and Service: Hunter Bramer.

• Ag Processing placement: Hannah Sheldon at Melcher’s Butcher Shop.

• Agricultural Production placement: Megan Shafer at Odessa Union (roguing).

• Fruit Production: Kaitlyn Zagelow (watermelon).

• Vegetable Production: Garrett Gross (garden).

• Specialty Crop: Isabelle Talancon (herbs).

State FFA Convention

Odessa FFA received the Hall of Chapters award for an exhibit of agriculture in the Odessa area, constructed by Parker Velverde, Patrick Valverde and Ben Melgren.

Odessa FFA also received a National Chapter Superior Ranking: The Odessa chapter ranked 20th in Washington state.
