Summer Reading Program
As has been the practice for many years, the Harrington Summer Reading Program will be held the four Thursdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Harrington Public Library. The program is organized and coordinated by WSU Lincoln County Extension 4-H Program by Bridget Rohner with Emma Aldrich, student volunteer and STEM specialist, and Jennifer Aldrich, Nutrition Educator with WSU. "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" and "Exercise Your Mind" will be common themes this year. STEM is finding the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical aspects of each topic, whether it be baseball, Nascar or the Olympics. Each session includes handicrafts, reading and activities and is geared toward making learning enjoyable. This year two field trips are planned for the children that attend, one to the swimming pool and one to the city park. Adequate supervision is planned, and it is hoped that another good year of attendance will occur.
Harrington Opera
House Society
Going up? Going down? The long awaited opera house elevator is prepared for passengers, going up first, and coming back down. The elevator has been approved for operation by the state and was tested by the current active members of the Society Friday afternoon at an impromptu meeting. This ADA-compliant elevator has been installed for those who find the stairs too much of a challenge. Saturday, June 25, will be the public's first opportunity to be carried via elevator to the auditorium for the Bel Canto-Women's Choral group presentation at 2 p.m. Attendance is by donation.
Studebaker Garage
Interested parties who intend helping with the July 4 Car Show in Harrington are asked to make arrangements with Allen Barth to ensure he has adequate crews. Watch for details in upcoming advertisements. A rummage sale benefitting the Opera House Society will also take place July 4.
