The last of the 10 Engle boys from Marlin, Don Alvin Engle, 100, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho Monday, August 22, 2016.
Don was born December 23, 1915, the sixth son of Ed and Irene Engle. Don was raised on the family wheat and cattle farm just north of Marlin and graduated with the 1933 class from Marlin High School. He worked in power line construction for Pacific Power and Light for more than 40 years, retiring as a foreman in charge of line building in 1978.
He married Elinor Landers May 13, 1946 in Spokane, and after living in various locations in the PNW, they settled in the Sagle, Idaho area in 1973. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing Bingo and making new friends. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. #359 in Albany, Oregon and the I.B.E.W. #125 in Portland, Ore.
The centenarian is survived by daughter Jackie (and Ken) Fullen of Jefferson, Ore., seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and 27 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elinor, his son Gary and his nine brothers.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Gamlin Lake Cemetery behind the Church in the Wildwood in Sagle, Idaho. Pastor Lori Morton, First Lutheran Church, will be officiating.
