Editor’s note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.
Monday, Aug. 22: Davenport ambulance personnel joined Reardan EMTs at the Fist A Cup coffee stand where a 17-year-old girl had fainted.
Odessa Union Warehouse personnel requested patrols to help prevent “constant issues” with people driving in the 1300 block of Fifth Street in Davenport at high speeds.
A vehicle stolen from Yakima was recovered after crashing in downtown Spokane, but not before local deputies and Reardan Police became involved in a pursuit when the vehicle was driven at high speeds on U.S. 2 between Davenport and Reardan, after having been stopped in Davenport.
An Edwall resident told dispatchers that an insulin pump used by her 16-year-old daughter had not been returned as requested.
Deputies investigated a possible incident of elder abuse in the Sprague area.
Deputies checked out a report of vehicle prowling in the Odessa area.
After noticing a suspicious vehicle in a field adjacent to SR 23 and Schirr Road near Sprague, the property owner confronted the driver, who said he was spraying weeds, and later discovered the door left open on his own vehicle.
Tuesday, Aug. 23: A truck got stuck under the gate at the railroad crossing at SR 23 and Sherlock Street in Harrington.
A caller reported the theft of a checkbook from a truck parked in the 800 block of Main Street in Davenport.
A county patrol car’s taillights and bumper melted in heat generated by the Hart Road fire while the deputy was working the Cayuse Loop Road area.
A 70-year-old Reardan man was ejected and died as a result of a rollover collision about seven miles east of Davenport. Witnesses told deputies that the pickup truck he was in was “all over the road” on U.S. 2 just minutes prior to leaving the roadway, traveling through a field and wrecking a second time on Sunset Highway near Ziemer Road.
Deputies responded to a collision at the intersection of Ziemantz and Mondovi roads. One vehicle, failing to yield, struck a second vehicle, causing a rollover to occur. No one was reported injured.
A bale of hay in the roadway became a hazard for drivers traveling on U.S. 2 just east of Davenport.
Reardan Police investigated a report that juveniles were playing inside an empty two-story house in the vicinity of Birch and Railroad avenues.
Wednesday, Aug. 24: Creston ambulance personnel assisted a man who suffered a possible seizure.
Someone used a shovel to try to pry open a garage door in the 37400 block of Main Street Road East near Davenport.
After reporting his fishing pole had been stolen at Sunday Bay in Deer Meadows, a man and the suspect came to an agreement that in exchange for its return, charges wouldn’t be filed.
A Creston man requested law enforcement assistance with an apparently intoxicated man who refused to leave property at Rosman and Watson roads.
Wilbur Police responded to a possible violation of a court order reported from the 200 block of NE Cliff.
Thursday, Aug. 25: Almira firefighters assisted their Grant County colleagues with a brush fire in Grant County.
Firefighters told deputies of their concern about “suspicious” vehicles and occupants looking into homes and mailboxes in the Pine Ridge/Hart Road fire area.
A pickup truck got stuck in a ditch along U.S. 2 near the Davenport area, but was gone when a deputy arrived there.
Wilbur Police responded to a caller’s concern about an apparently intoxicated hitchhiker who was taking with juveniles and stepping into U.S. 2 traffic while attempting to get a ride.
Odessa Police assisted Moses Lake authorities in the investigation of a possible sex offense.
Reardan Police investigated a report of phone harassment against a man and his girlfriend.
Friday, Aug. 26: Wilbur firefighters conducted a controlled burn south of town on Wagner Lake and Dreger roads.
A deputy intercepted a driver whose vehicle was clocked at 100 miles per hour in a 50 zone at Hawk Creek and Gunning roads near Davenport.
A man was arrested after the Coulee Dam Credit Union in Creston reported receiving a fraudulent check.
A caller expressed concern about a burn pit and several aerosol cans believed to be a possible fire hazard on property along SR 231 north of Reardan.
A Wilbur man reported two individuals dumped litter on private property adjacent to Haden Road East.
A woman, 28, had a scratch on the chest and a bump on the head, telling deputies that a man hit her after she kicked his dog in the 100 block of NE Dungan Street in Creston.
A deputy checked on a Davenport man believed by a caller to be planning to take his own life by overdosing on pills.
Responding to the 300 block of Maxwell Street, emergency responders unsuccessfully attempted to save the life of a Davenport woman who reportedly had fallen and suffered a possible seizure.
A vehicle blocked traffic for a time on SR 25 at McInnis Road just north of Davenport while being used to pull another vehicle from a ditch.
Saturday, Aug. 27: Callers reported seeing a green Ford Explorer speeding on SR 28 south of Davenport and an erratically driven orange motorcycle on U.S. 2 near the county fairgrounds.
A caller became concerned after occupants of a golf cart took photos of a lock on a shed on property along Sunday Bay Road in Deer Meadows.
A man sitting alongside U.S. 2 about a mile west of Davenport told an inquiring deputy that he was hitchhiking from Montana to Wenatchee and had trouble catching a ride after leaving I-90.
A local man’s glasses were knocked off his face during a reported assault involving another man outside Trader’s Express in Davenport.
A deputy told a Sterling Valley area caller that despite red flag warnings, it remains legal to shoot. Her call was prompted when those shooting in the vicinity ignored her when she told them they shouldn’t be engaged in that activity.
A deputy determined that individuals discovered on property at Old Sprague Highway and Lake Valley Loop weren’t trespassing, but just didn’t know where they were.
Firefighters from Wilbur, Almira and Creston battled a blaze at Tomfoolery Pizza Pub on NW Main Avenue in Wilbur, resulting in the eatery having to be closed for the next few weeks.
A caller asked National Park Service personnel to become involved with “rescuing” two kayakers seen on the water without life jackets with high winds forecast on Lake Roosevelt.
Sunday, Aug. 28: Reardan firefighters assisted their Spokane County counterparts with a structure fire in the vicinity of U.S. 2 and Wood Road.
No one was hurt after two vehicles collided on McInnis Road near the Davenport Sports Complex (baseball fields). A wooden fence on the city property sustained some damage.
A Creston caller expressed concern about finding what appeared to be Jeep tracks on private property along Wild Turkey Lane.
A deputy investigated possible animal neglect involving pigs on property adjacent to Redwine Canyon Road.
Responding to a caller’s concern, a deputy contacted seven teenagers about recklessly driving motorcycles up and down the 800 block of Merriam Street in Davenport.

Civil Judgment
Kevin J. and Toni L. Hurley, doing business as Bubbas Bar and Grill in Reardan, must pay $1,773.15 in taxes owed for March of this year to the Washington State Department of Revenue.
Juvenile Offender Disposition
Terrance Kyler Jim, 17, of Grand Coulee, pleaded guilty Aug. 16 to indecent liberties (amended through plea negotiations from second-degree forcible rape) in connection with a June 5 incident involving a 17-year-old girl. Under the special sexual offender disposition alternative, he must complete 52 to 65 weeks in juvenile rehabilitation (sexual offender treatment), 30 days confinement (3 credited as served), 24 months community supervision, 50 hours community service, drug/alcohol evaluation and recommended treatment, have HIV and DNA testing, register as a sexual offender in Okanogan County, pay $100 court costs and restitution to be determined, and possess no weapons. He also must have no contact with the victim or with youths whose ages are three or more years younger than he without a parent or chaperone’s supervision, or with anyone currently under court supervision. The court retained jurisdiction for a maximum of 10 years after he turns 18 on Sept. 16.
New Criminal Cases
Kurtis Allen Klingenberg, 18, and Ayleana L. Caldwell, 20, both of Grand Coulee, are each charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of second-degree malicious mischief in connection with an Aug. 12 incident that resulted in about $1,500 damage to doors on two storage units adjacent to SR 174 in Grand Coulee.
Michael Chris Amtoft, Jr., 38, is charged with first-degree theft in connection with the July 18 taking of about $18,600 worth of marijuana from Buddy Boy Farms on Angels Landing Road North in the Ford area of Lincoln County.
New Civil Case
Craig and Melodie Dowdy, of Davenport, doing business as YJ Guide Service, seek repurchase/replacement of a 2014 utility vehicle purchased in March 2015 from a Hayden, Idaho, vendor, claiming defects in the engine, transmission and electrical system were not satisfactorily resolved under warranty by respondents Linhai Powersports and Sunright International. The petitioners also are asking for $10,000 actual damages, other relief and court costs.
