Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Caleb Singer, of the Odessa Jr. Livestock 4-H Club, received Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services 4-H Scholarship certificates during the rodeo last Saturday night at the Lincoln County Fair.
In recent years, Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services have created new 4-H scholarships to recognize high school seniors who are 4-H members for their leadership and core values and who personify the 4-H mission through their 4-H career, project completion and service to their community. Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services continue to support livestock sales but have also added this "Scholars" program to create awareness and leadership potential in our 4-H youth, regardless of project areas and interests.
This year, high school seniors who were currently enrolled in 4-H with plans to attend a two or four-year college were encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Applicants from Adams, Asotin, Ferry, Grant, Klickitat, Skamania, Spokane, Stevens, Whitman and Lincoln counties were eligible to apply.
Kelly Donohue, Avista representative, presented Singer with the certificates for $500 scholarships each from Avista and Northwest Farm Credit Services.
A 4-H member for 10 years, Singer is enrolled in the Beef Project in the Odessa Jr. Livestock 4-H Club, and selection was based on his project activities as well as leadership and community service participation. Caleb plans to begin his college education at Spokane Community College with the goal of obtaining a criminal justice degree to ultimately pursue a career as a Washington Fish and Game Warden. His parents are Jennifer and Roland Singer of rural Odessa.
Lincoln County 4-H members have several 4-H scholarship opportunities through local and state 4-H programs that are made possible by donations from various organizations, businesses, individuals and families. WSU Lincoln-Adams Extension and the Lincoln County 4-H Leaders' Council appreciates the leaders who help mentor club members and sponsors that help support the 4-H program. The WSU Extension 4-H Youth Development Program is developing young people to become productive citizens engaged in positive change, meeting the needs of a diverse and changing society. 4-H is open to all youth between the ages of five and 19 (4-H age) without discrimination.
