Odessa Open held Sunday

The Odessa Open, the state-sanctioned horseshoes tournament held last Saturday at the Finney Field horseshoe pits had 14 players competing for awards in two classes of play.

In the A class, Jerry Conklin of the Tri-Cities took first place, with Earl Hertlin of Creston taking second and Les Myers of Tri-Cities taking third.

In B class competition, Harold Boger of Moses Lake was the number-one pitcher, with Ron Heutink of Ephrata getting second place and Mike Watcher of Spokane coming in third.

The final tournament of the 2016 season will be held in Kennewick this coming Saturday, October 8.

The state women’s champion, Kaiti Reeves, was also at the Odessa meet and took some time out to talk to The Record. She is a young woman in her twenties who has grown up pitching horseshoes with men her father’s age and older. She said she very much enjoyed the banter and camaraderie of her fellow pitchers.

Reeves herself, as the 2015 champion, had a 13-1 record and a ringer percentage of 42.60.
