FFA students visit ranch, learn art of butchering

Members of the Odessa High School FFA chapter took a field trip to the farm of Jeff and Heather Melcher this past Monday, where they learned how to butcher a beef. It was an opportunity to expose the members to another kind of agricultural career. All members helped bone-out, grind and wrap the beef. They also learned where the different cuts of meat are located on the animal. For some, this was a totally new adventure, while others were old hands at it. At the end of this butchering day, the students called it a successful learning experience and said they would love to do it again....
