Gies, DeWulf nab firsts at Colville meet

Last Saturday's Ezra Gordon Invitational in Colville was the season's first meet for the Odessa-Harrington track and field teams, both boys and girls. The O-H boys took third place as a team, and the O-H girls placed 11th. Other teams participating were Colville, Curlew, Cusick, Deer Park, Kettle Falls, L.V. Rogers, Liberty (Spangle), Mary Walker, Newport, Northport, Oroville, Priest River Lamanna, Republic, Selkirk, Tonasket and Wellpinit.

The teams from Deer Park and Colville took the top two spots in the meet, respectively, for both the boys and girls.

Individual scoring, girls

Placing 19th in the 100 meters was Odessa freshman Josie Westmoreland in a time of 14.73. Sophomore Tori Weishaar was 23rd in a time of 14.88.

In the 200 meters, Westmoreland finished 12th in a time of 31.5, and senior Shelby Watkins was 14th in 31.95.

Watkins was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles at 18.47.

In the 4x100 relay, the team of Josie Westmoreland, Tori Weishaar, Maddy Wagner and Shelbey Watkins took fourth place in 57.18.

In the shot put, freshman Caitlyn Schuh placed sixth with a heave of 28-01.00, sixth in the discus with a throw of 70-08 and fifth in the javelin with at 76-05. All three events were personal records for her. Fellow freshman Maddy Wagner was 12th in javelin with a throw of 67-04.

Weishaar was fifth in the pole vault at 6-06.00.

Westmoreland was 14th in the long jump at 10-04.50.

Individual scoring, boys

Odessa junior Gaven Elder finished fourth in the 100 meters in a time of 11.74. Freshman Brady Walter was in 22nd place with a time of 13.26.

Elder finished second in the 200 meters in a time of 24.73, and Jonny Hayashi was 16th with a time of 27.43.

In the 1600 meters, Odessa senior Cole Kissler finished 21st in a time of 5:33.00.

Odessa senior Aaron Gies placed first in both hurdles events. His time for the 110-meter high hurdles was 15.87 and for the 300-meter low hurdles was 41.84.

In the 4x100 relay, the team consisting of Cole Kissler, Aaron Gies, Jonny Hayashi and Gaven Elder placed third in a time of 47.56.

In the shot put, two Odessa seniors were closely matched and finished 12th and 13th. Colby Sooy had a distance of 35-08.00 and Lukas Marshall had a distance of 35-00.50. Brady Walter came in at 29 with a distance of 28.00.

Sooy placed sixth in the discus at 116.00.

In the javelin, Odessa senior John DeWulf placed first with a throw of 155-08. Sooy was 10th at 109.10, Kissler 14th at 101-02, Walter 22nd at 88-06 and Marshall 25th at 85-06.

In the pole vault, DeWulf placed fourth at 11.00 and Kissler was eighth at 8.06.

Elder placed second in the long jump with a leap of 18-11.00, and Hayashi was 17th at 15-00.50.

DeWulf took second in the triple jump at 41-00.00.
