Football, volleyball underway
In its first game of the season on September 1, the Odessa Tigers football team traveled to Inchelium where they defeated the home team by a score of 80-6. No stats were available for this game.
The game against Garfield-Palouse, scheduled for September 8 was cancelled due to the smokey conditions from the many wildfires in the Northwest. The game will not be rescheduled.
The Sausage Bowl, played in Odessa during the Deutschesfest was another lopsided victory for the Tigers over Tekoa-Rosalia. With sophomore quarterback Camden Weber and backup quarterback Jett Nelson, a freshman, at the helm, the Tigers pounded the opposition by scoring 82 points, while the defense allowed only 12 points by T-R.
Weber completed seven of 10 attempted passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Nelson completed four of five attempted passes for 87 yards.
Senior Gaven Elder rushed for 130 yards, carrying the ball six times and getting one TD. Fellow senior Colton Hunt carried the ball five times for 67 yards and also was credited with one TD. Sophmore Marcus King had three carries for 79 yards and one TD. Another sophomore, Josh Clark, also had three carries for 40 yards and crossed the goal line for a TD. Weber added 33 yards rushing to his stats on three carries and added two more TDs to his total of five.
King also caught four passes for another 76 yards and four TDs. Hunt also caught four passes, one of them for a touchdown. Elder led the team in total yards gained with 185, followed by Weber with 160 and King with 155.
King led the defense in tackles with 12, all of them unassisted. Also on defense, sophomore Brady Walter and juniors Theron Schlomer and Jordyn Cooper each had one pass interception.
The Odessa Tigers volleyball team played Almira-Coulee-Hartline in Coulee City on September 12 and lost in three games.

Amber Smith had two kills, Brenna Carstensen one assist and McKennah Davison three digs.
Next up for the Tigers is Tuesday Sept. 19 vs. Wellpinit 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 21 vs. Valley Christian 6 p.m. both and Saturday Sept. 23 vs. Cusick 12 p.m. and Selkirk 4 p.m., with all matches in Odessa.
