Tiger boys head to Hardwood Classic

The Odessa varsity boys basketball team is headed to the state tournament after winning second place at the District 7 tournament in Deer Park last weekend (see full story on page 5).

The boys will travel across the state to North Creek High School in Bothell to play Cedar Park Christian of Mountlake Terrace beginning at 4 p.m. Other teams will play in this first round of regional play at various neutral sites around the state. Almira-Coulee-Hartline will play Sunnyside Christian at Eisenhower High School in Yakima on February 23 at 8 p.m.

After the first round, the remaining games will be played at the Spokane Arena starting Wednesday, February 28.

Sunnyside Christian is ranked number one among the state's 1B schools and has a record of 22-1 this season. Yakama Nation Tribal School of Toppenish is number two, three is Pomeroy and four is Muckleshoot Tribal of Auburn. Odessa High and Cedar Park are ranked five and six, respectively, so should be pretty evenly matched.

If the Tigers win Saturday, they will play at the Spokane Arena on March 1 at 12:15 p.m. If they lose, they will play at the arena February 28 at 9 a.m. Other eastern Washington teams in the tournament are Pateros, Riverside Christian of Yakima and Garfield-Palouse.
