Food bank, backpack program get supplies

Volunteers Merleen and Gunner Smith and Stan Dammel make a trip to Ritzville each month to meet the Second Harvest Food Bank truck. There, they pick up food for not only Odessa's Food Bank, but also the Odessa Backpack Program. They generously donate their time and gas to make the school delivery, as shown in the picture, and also unload and put away the food for Odessa's Food Bank. The items for the food bank vary from month to month, but they are provided free to our community. The Backpack Program has been sponsored for seven years by Odessa High School Future Business Leaders of America. They seek community sponsors who generously donate $140 for each child who participates in the program. At this time 28 children have sponsors, but 19 are still in need. If you would like to ensure that all children have food to eat over the weekend, it is not too late to contribute to the program by mailing a check to Odessa HS Future Business Leaders of America, c/o Backpack Program, PO Box 248, Odessa WA 99159.
