The first buttercup of 2019 was a long time coming, but that harbinger of spring has now been found and submitted to The Record by young Simon King, son of Alex and Kaci King of Odessa and a Kindergarten student at P.C. Jantz Elementary School. Simon found the bright yellow flower on his family's ranch just outside of Odessa.
Our area's blast of cold weather with snow and sub-freezing temperatures through much of February and March certainly delayed the flowering of many early spring flowers. The buttercup is hardy, though, and as soon as the temperature warms up a few degrees, it peeks out of the ground and sends up it flowers.
