Tigers defeat Hunters, fall to ACH

On Tuesday, April 16, the Tigers won a home conference game against Columbia High School of Hunters by a score of 17-0.

Camden Weber had three hits in his four plate appearances accounting for three runs and two RBIs. Jett Nelson had three hits, three runs and three RBIs in his four appearances at bat. Eric Johnston and Hayden Miller each had two hits for one run, with Johnston picking up two RBIs and Miller one. Drew Hardung and Marcus King each had one hit and two runs. Colton Messer and Bradly Singer each had one hit and one run, with Messer bringing in two RBIs and Singer one.

Weber connected for a triple, while Hayden Miller produced two doubles and Hardung had one double. It was a good day at bat for the Tigers.

Theron Schlomer pitched two innings, facing six batters, and striking out three. Camden Weber pitched one inning in relief, facing four batters, striking out two and walking one. Collin Martin also pitched one inning, facing four batters, walking one but, like the two preceding pitchers, allowing no hits.

Game two of the double header was pretty much a repeat of the first game.

Jett Nelson had three hits in his three times at bat, one of them a double. He drove in two runs and accounted for three RBIs. Eric Johnston had two hits (one also a double), driving in three runs and picking up two RBIs. Theron Schlomer, Drew Hardung and Bradly Singer each got one hit, with Hardung pounding out a double.

Tim DeWulf pitched two innings. Facing eight batters, he allowed no hits, walked one and struck out four. Johnston came on in relief to pitch the third inning. He faced five batters, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two. Nelson pitched the final inning. He faced three batters, allowed no hits, walked none and struck out two.

On April 20, the Tigers faced Almira-Coulee-Hartline in a home double-header at Finney Field.

Nelson had two hits, but neither brought in any runners. Theron Schlomer had one hit and picked up an RBI. Marcus King hit a triple to score the Tigers’ only run.

Schlomer was the starting pitcher and went 5.1 innings. He faced 23 batters, allowed three hits for three runs, struck out 10 and walked three. Nelson relieved him in the sixth but also allowed three runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out two. Camden Weber pitched the final inning, allowing one hit but no runs, striking out two and walking none.

In game two, the Tigers once again could not keep pace with ACH in a close 7-5 loss.

Schlomer had two hits, both doubles, for one run and one RBI. Weber also had two hits, one of them a double, and picked up an RBI. Miller had two hits, one run and one RBI. Nelson, King, Johnston and Keith Strebeck each had one hit, with Johnston also getting one RBI.

DeWulf pitched 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs, five of them earned. He walked two batters and struck out six. Weber came on in relief in the fifth and closed out the game. He allowed two hits for one earned run, walked two and struck out three. DeWulf faced 24 batters and Weber 15.
