SUPERIOR COURT
John F. Strohmaier, Judge
Criminal Sentencings
After a jury found him guilty of unlawful possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride on May 22, Michael Logan Arnett, 36, of Spokane and Grand Coulee, was sentenced May 28 to three months in jail and payment of $700 in court assessments. The one-day trial included an interesting twist when the court denied public defender David Hearrean’s motion for a mistrial after one of the jurors fell asleep twice. The charge involved an April 11, 2018, incident. The jury also acquitted Arnett of illegally possessing hydrocodone.
Gregory William Behrens, 39, of Sprague, pleaded guilty June 4 to unlawful possession of methamphetamine hydrochloride in connection with a July 23, 2018, incident. His sentence includes 20 days in jail, payment of $1,000 in court assessments
Ryan Douglas Pryor, 39, of Spokane, pleaded guilty May 28 to attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle on Oct. 6, 2017. As a result of plea negotiations, prosecutors withdrew charges of possession of a stolen vehicle (2 counts) and attempted theft of a motor vehicle. His sentence includes 22 months in prison and payment of $500 in court assessments.
Civil Judgments
The court on May 21 granted a one-year protection order requested by Casey Ann Evenson, of Reardan, against Timothy Albert Evenson in a domestic violence matter involving a minor child.
The court on May 14 denied a protection order requested by Karla Sliger (on behalf of a minor child), of Wilbur, against Michael Miller, noting that the petitioner failed to demonstrate sufficient basis for the order.
Carl Wayne Clark, of Davenport, must return $230.70 in overpaid disability benefits to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
Rita F. Buff, of Wilbur, must return $305.63 in overpaid benefits to the Washington State Employment Security Department.
The court on June 4 granted a one-year domestic violence protection order requested by Irene Mary McCuin against Nicholes Mac McCuin, of Creston.
New Criminal Cases
Ryan Wesley Olson, 34, of Wilbur, is charged with first-degree malicious mischief in connection with the slashing of tires on a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy’s personal vehicle and patrol car on May 17 while parked in the 500 block of NW Armstrong in Wilbur.
Erney Wayne Gilbert, 58, of Wilbur and Creston, is charged with second-degree possession of stolen property in connection with the May 9 theft of a vehicle and other items valued at more than $2,350 from property adjacent to McDowell Canyon Road. Among the items missing were a generator, fencing and posts, a grinder, post hole digger, chainsaw and other tools.
New Juvenile Offender Matter
Two additional charges of second-degree taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s permission were added to another previously filed against a 14-year-old Reardan boy who was released from juvenile detention on May 31. The new charges concern the theft of a vehicle from where it was parked on Lake Street in Reardan on May 16 and two others from the Springdale and Reardan areas on June 7 that subsequently were involved in separate collisions. A charge of third-degree possession of stolen property (concerning a tablet allegedly found in his bedroom) also was filed during the past week and he was previously charged with second-degree theft and second-degree vehicle prowling in connection with the removal of a cell phone from a vehicle outside a Sprague business on May 16.
