Mail theft update: evidence collected

Parcels stolen in cities throughout the state

DAVENPORT – A date has been set for a jury trial in a case of alleged mail theft. According to documents filed with the Lincoln County Clerk's  Office, defendant Leora Guery, 37, Moses Lake, has a court date for a jury trial of April 8, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in Lincoln County Superior Court. Victoria Iverson has been appointed attorney for Guery, wholly at the public's expense. An arrest warrant states that Guery is accused of mail theft and theft in the second degree-access device.

Clerk's office documents also state a jury trial is scheduled concurrent with the Guery trial for "Kara-lyn Fithen" a name that does not appear in any other public records reviewed by the Times.

A probable cause for arrest statement signed by Deputy Jerad McLagan of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office states that dispatchers received multiple calls on Feb. 11, 2020 reporting that mail had been stolen from mailboxes along SR 25 between Teel Hill Rd. and Reinbold Rd.

Deputies detained Guery and Karalyn Solis,35, in connection with the reports of stolen mail. Judge Strohmaier, Lincoln County Superior Court,  signed a warrant to search the vehicle Guery and Solis had been driving. The report states deputies found hundreds of pieces of mail from multiple addresses inside the vehicle.

A news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office states, "this is a huge case taking multiple deputies and lots of resource" and lists recovered mail from the following cities: Davenport (52 pieces), Pasco (92), Wenatchee (32), East Wenatchee (120), Ephrata (1), Entiat (13), Moses Lake (85), Kennewick (53), Othello (35), Warden (3), Chelan 27), Coulee Dam (25), Grand Coulee (47), Ritzville 2), Olympia (1), Spokane Valley 1), Malaga (1), and Yakima (2) for a total of 593 pieces of mail.

Deputies also recovered 43 debit or credit cards, three gift cards, eight driver's licenses or IDs, and two passports.
