Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Over the course of the last few months, Davenport FBLA Community Service Project co-chairs Ellie Telford, Kenzie Gerlitz-Simpson, and Navia Bowdish along with the FBLA chapter members have been promoting heart health and stroke prevention through a series of events and activities for all ages throughout the Davenport community. As part of the project, the chapter partnered with Lincoln Hospital & Clinics to provide an educational presentation at the Davenport Senior Center. During the visit FBLA members and project co-chairs passed out gift bags to all those in attendance. Gift bags were filled with health care-related educational and informational materials. The bags also included a number of items such as pill boxes, magnets, notepads, and pens, which were all donated from local businesses. Gift bags were also included in Home Delivery meals, which were delivered to local residents in the Davenport community. A hospital provider, Dr. Chad Mongrain spoke about heart health and stroke prevention. The project co-chairs and FBLA chapter also hosted EKG Screenings at the school for both students and adults, working with Marcia Niles and the Andra Heart Project. Further, the chapter hosted a Kid's Heart Challenge event with Davenport Elementary, where FBLA members and elementary students participated in heart healthy exercises and activities. FBLA members Davenport FBLA would like to thank Carey Guhlke-Falk, Communications Director at Lincoln Hospital and Clinics for helping organize the event, Dr. Mongrain who took the time to speak at the senior center, as well as Creekside Pharmacy, Davenport Pharmacy, Lincoln Hospital & Clinics, and Vitalant who all donated items to include in the gift bags. We also extend our appreciation to Marcia Niles and Linda Dougherty for their help in completing the EKG screenings, and finally to all the students and staff at Davenport Elementary for participating in the Kid's Heart Challenge.
