Virus affecting business

ODESSA - The coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak has left shelves and schools empty here and across the country.

On March 16, President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in response to the continuing spread of cases of the coronavirus, COVID-19.

By executive order of Gov. Jay Inslee, schools throughout the state are closed at least through April 24.

Children last attended school March 16 to receive instruction on completing assignments at home using electronic media.

Spring sports have been postponed until school resumes.

The governor's order also shuts down all gatherings of more than 50 people.:

The March 20 Chamber of Commerce banquet.

Next month's, Desert-100 by the Stumpjumpers Motorcycle Club.

Business is affected, too.

Experience Quilts! has closed its doors to protect its many elderly customers.

The Hair Haus salon has canceled appointments through April 1.

Both Wheatland and Washington Federal banks have locked their lobby doors and/or limited entry to one person at a time.

Customers requiring access to safety deposit boxes or other personal attention may call their bank for an appointment, officials said.

For other transactions, use ATMs, drop boxes, online banking, etc., officials said.

Until further notice, Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center has prohibited visits to patients at the hospital and Quail Court.

Chiefs Bar & Grill is open for take-out service or delivery (for those unable to leave their homes). The restaurant is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. through 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Odessa Trading Co. remains open (main office, parts dept. and shop), although customers are being encouraged to conduct business by phone or email whenever possible.

Odessa Auto Parts, NAPA is changing its hours of operation to 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, March 23.

The Odessa Dental Clinic remains open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Wednesday but only for emergencies or pain relief.

All other elective dental procedures are not being offered for the next few weeks on the advice of the Washington State Dental Association.

Highline Grain Growers (formerly Odessa Union Warehouse) has locked its office doors but will conduct business through a window until further notice. Its hours remain the same.

Leffel, Otis & Warwick remains open but has locked its front office doors and advises customers to communicate via phone and email until further notice.

Odessa Drug remains open during normal business hours but will deliver prescriptions if requested.

Odessa Foods, Ramm Hardware, Costlow's Service, Walter Implement and the Town of Odessa Clerk's Office remain open during normal posted business hours.
