Davenport clinic halts Saturday same-day visits

Low use prompts decision

Beginning on August 1, the Davenport Clinic will no longer be offering same-day office visits on Saturdays. The hospital district cited low utilization and challenges staffing the shortened Saturday clinic hours as reasons for the closure. Same-day appointments continue to be available to patients Monday through Friday.

“We started the Saturday clinics many years ago to help aid patients who found themselves ill over the weekend, but not feeling they were sick enough to need the emergency room,” said Jennifer Larmer, Chief Clinical Officers for Lincoln Hospital and Clinics. “We also wanted to help out those patients who were unable to access the clinic during weekdays.”

The clinic reported the average number of patients on Saturdays has been only three patients.

Larmer said the Saturday clinic will be considered again after the new Davenport Clinic location has been built if there is enough of an identified need. “It will be a little easier to staff with the new clinic being attached to the hospital and, of course, we’re always looking for ways we can best serve our community’s healthcare needs.”
