Davenport school start delayed

DAVENPORT – The school district announced they have pushed back the start of school to Sept. 2 due to delays in accessing a new online curriculum adopted for the 2020/21 school year.

Superintendent Jim Kowalkowski said the district experienced a “hiccup” last Friday when they learned increased demand for online content has caused delays with the curriculum company.

“Like most things during this pandemic, we were thrown a curve ball on Friday, August 21st and do not yet have access to our online content,” Kowalkowski said in a letter to parents. “Despite our work with our partner company over the past several weeks, the increase in volume for companies that provide rich online content is exponential. Therefore, they are backed up as schools across the country develop plans similar to ours. This has created some challenges for these companies, as well as schools.”

By pushing the start date back one week, Kowalkowski said the district will not be aligned wit other schools in the county.

“Based on this new development, we feel it is best to delay the start of school by one week to ensure that we are operational with our online curriculum and content. By pushing our start date back a week, we align with other local Lincoln County schools,” he said. “Due to this change, we will be updating our school district calendar; a new calendar will be provided to families once it is finalized and approved.”
