Wolffy's Burgers to host fundraiser benefitting fire victims

AIRWAY HEIGHTS—The two families that lost homes in the Bartholomew and Christensen fires Aug. 27 and Sept. 7, respectively will soon be getting some assistance from the community. Wolffy’s Burgers is hosting a spaghetti feed Saturday, Sept. 19, with 100% of proceeds benefitting those fire victims.

“When the fires hit here in town … we had thrown around the idea of doing something for the community,” owner Jessica Davis said. “We ran with the idea and put it into play.”

Originally, the ownership of Davis and her husband Justin had considered fundraising to help victims of the Malden fire, but Fire Chief Mitch Metzger advised that the local victims may need more help, as there was widespread and even national assistance coming into Malden.

“They were getting a ton of help out there,” Davis said. “There were two families here in town who lost their homes, so maybe that was a better place for us to draw attention and help out in our community.”

The fundraiser is garnering community support. Representatives from Fairchild Air Force Base have reached out to offer their assistance. Police Chief Brad Richmond will be in attendance helping to serve tables. The fire department will bring its ladder truck to the event.

“Everybody has stepped in in one way or another,” Davis said.

The Davis’s original goal was to raise $2,000, but Jessica Davis thinks the community support will help “blow that number out of the water.”

“It’s been crazy to see people coming out of the woodworks and offering up help with the event, or to donate things,” Davis said. “The community support has been incredible.”

The spaghetti feed runs from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. and will feature a meal of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. The meals cost $8 per person.

A family take-out option is also available. Those interested can pre-order via phone, Facebook or Instagram and pay upon pickup.

People unavailable to attend the event can still make donations online or in person at the restaurant. Davis set up a Facebook fundraiser on the restaurant’s page, and also has an in-person envelope for cash donations at the restaurant.
