GORILLAS STAY UNBEATEN WITH A 13-6 WIN OVER RITZVILLE

In a Friday night game, Deral Boleneus took a fourth quarter pass from Bob McCaffery and ran 25 yards for a touch down. Davenport claimed a 13-6 win over Ritzville on the Bronc’s home field Friday evening.The win kept the Gorilla’s undefeated record intact.

LARGE LINCOLN COUNTY DELAGATION ATTENDS 4-H FAIR IN PUYALLUP

Because of their outstanding achievements at the County level 46 4-H’ers from Lincoln County gained the right to represent their County at the recent State 4-H Fair in Puyallup.These students (who were accompanied to Puyallup by many of their parents and leaders) included: Intermediates (4-H’ers who are 12 and 13 years old) who attended were Linda Bergeron and Kathy Lundgren, both from Reardan and Linda Sieverkropp, from Odessa. These girls all gave Home Ec. demonstrations. Engineering Demonstration, given by Ron Mielke, Davenport. YELLOW RIBBON AWAITS RETURN OF SERVICEMAN

Passers by on Davenport Adams Street likely have viewed with curiosity the yellow ribbon tied around the post of the porch light at the Zeimantz home. The now rather weathered strip of silk awaits the return of Donald C. Zeimantz Jr., 25 from the Persian Gulf. Son of Don and Fran Zwimantz, The U.S. Navy petty officer third class has been in the Middle East three months as a part of Operation Desert Shield. The Zeimantzes decided to put up a yellow ribbon symbolizing his safe return when they were visiting another son back east in August. Steve Zeimantz is a sergeant in the US Army in Fort Knox, Ky. According to Fran Zeimantz, the yellow ribbon symbol was used widely there as a number of families were anxiously waiting for loved ones to return home from the Middle East. In addition, the Zeimantzes learned of a special yellow ribbon promotion conducted for servicemen overseas by a radio station in Spokane.

“I said that’s a good idea and we’ll put a ribbon out until (Donald) comes back” Fran said “He thought that was wonderful”.

Donald Zeimantz has been in the Persian Golf aboard the U.S.S Goldsborough, a Navy guided missile destroyer since July. He left Pearl Harbor with the Independence Battle Fleet on July 5th, Fran said.

His parent’s first learned of their son’s participation in Desert Shield though the media. Some newspapers had listed the Goldsborough as Guld bound, Fran said, and the ship was pictured in the new clip taken in the Middle East that was broadcasted on National television.

TIMES RECEIVED NINE AWARDS FROM STATE COMPETITION

Nine awards were presented earlier this month to the Davenport Times for excellence in reporting, news and sports writing, photography, page design and graphic arts.

The Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA) conduct its Better Newspaper Contest as an incentive for snappy journalism among community newspaper in the state.

The Times is grouped with community (weekly) newspaper in Washington with circulations of up to 2,500.
