Ransom note accompanies digital break-in
DAVENPORT – Lincoln County Courthouse computers continued to be “compromised” after a Nov. 19 incident that has required a cyber security team.
According to Lincoln County Commissioner Rob Coffman, the software systems were “compromised by an outside party.”
The county has a “team on the ground that is working on it,” he said.
While the county is not calling the incident the work of a hacker, Coffman noted a ransom note was left.
“We have a good security system,” Coffman said. “So, at this time, we don’t know the extent of the compromise.”
As of press time, the county payroll system had been restored, he said.
Coffman noted that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office dispatch system was not affected.
However, it is uncertain when the systems will be back up.
