Harrington elves help local groups during holidays

HARRINGTON – The city apparently has a group of silent elves that eavesdrop on all the community meetings and disperse needed items to members of various organizations who continue to adorn the city with lights, garlands, a manger scene, Santa and other seasonal ornamentation. Scurrying about at the north entrance to Harrington, elves brought about changes in the triangle and, from there to the heart of the city, greater lighting than had appeared in previous years. The Lions Club has its listings of donors with Christmas wishes. The Christmas Tree of Sharing at city hall is changing on a daily basis, with gifts coming in and tags going out.

Library

Harrington Library Board members Grace Moeller and Stacey Rasmussen spent several hours finding authors and titles of books that they believed our most avid reader Richard would want to check out. Among the authors included were Grisham, Patterson, Picoult, Deaver, Lescroart, Jance and Woods. In a week’s time, the order arrived, and Librarian Marge Womach processed the books and actually saw Richard sign his name for three of these new books. Moeller and Rasmussen also pulled DVDs and books about Christmas and winter wonderland and set up a display so that patrons can easily locate these seasonal items. Besides books, the library also offers DVDs, audio books, and VHS tapes. Computers for patrons’ use are also available. Weather permitting, the hours for the library are 2-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and 3-6 p.m. on Thursdays. E-books are available online for downloading. The city provides free Wi-Fi connection for the public both inside the building and outside.

Harrington

service station

News reached this writer over the weekend that the Harrington Service Station, 102 S Third Street, (built in 1926 by G.E. Davis) was recently sold by Billie and Gordon Herron. Lots of rumors circulated over the past six weeks while the Herrons were busily transporting stored items from the old service station to other property they own. When the story from the new owner is obtained, it is anticipated that more details will be forthcoming.
