REARDAN – Century West Engineering of Spokane Valley was selected to lay the sidewalk for a Ballfield Pathway Project running from the high school down to Highway 2, mayor Gail Daniels informed council at its Dec. 17 meeting.
The sidewalk project, which is being funded in full through a grant, will run from the football field to the highway. Construction is expected to begin in February.
Grant funding also paid for the current pathways running from the baseball fields to the high school.
The town has been planning the project for several years, according to town hall.
Council also discussed three trailers violating a city ordinance by hooking up to sewers without paying. Ordinance No. 666 in town states campers cannot be hooked to or dump into the sewer line system, according to meeting documentation.
One of the trailers, which was located on East Broadway Street in the alley, has since vacated, but campers on North Lake Street and East Columbia Avenue were still in violation as of council’s meeting.
Council elected to have police chief Andy Manke inform the camper residents of the ordinance and tell them they’re in violation, but not enforce any penalties until consultation with lawyers to determine what kind of enforcement is allowed due to COVID-19 utility payment restrictions.
Approval was also granted to the school district for Lot 4 and 5 on Block 17 in the Fairweather addition, where property owners Kenneth L. and Paulette B. Brown have allowed use for the readerboard project, which the town is creating in partnership with the school district, STCU, Reardan Athletic Booster Club and Highland Grain Growers.
The next day, the school district announced via Facebook that Highland Grain Growers had donated $5,000 to the project.
Council’s next meeting is scheduled for
Jan. 7.
