Odessa sixth-graders participate in Project Build

ODESSA – With the help of members of Odessa High School’s FBLA chapter, Odessa sixth-graders began using real-world budgeting lessons to enhance their personal financial skills. They participated in Project Build, part of the high-school chapter’s American Enterprise Project, where they learned the importance of budgeting and how to build a budget. They applied this knowledge to build their own budget for a gingerbread house.

Each student received the basics: Four walls, two roof panels and a tube of icing. From there, they had to use a spreadsheet program to plan a budget for decorating their gingerbread house with candy, additional frosting, sprinkles and cones for trees. By practicing skillful budgeting, each student produced a unique house. The sixth-graders learned valuable lessons that can start them on the right track to effectively managing their personal finances in the future.
