National FFA week quickly approaching

Local chapter planning activities

ODESSA – The Odessa High School FFA chapter is among more than 8,739 chapters of the National FFA Organization located in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. It is a school-based, national youth-leadership development organization comprising more than 760,000 student members ranging in age from 12 to 21. FFA encourages students to explore careers in the food, fiber and natural-resource industries.

National FFA Week is Feb. 20-27. It provides an opportunity for FFA members to share agricultural education with their fellow students and to perform service projects benefitting their local communities. It also allows FFA members to raise awareness about the role the National FFA Organization plays in developing future leaders in agriculture and emphasizes the importance of agricultural education.

Once known as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization was established by a group of young farmers in 1928 to help the next generation of farmers meet the challenge of feeding America and much of the rest of the world. In 1948, the National FFA Board of Directors created National FFA Week to provide greater public recognition.

National FFA Week is a time for alumni and supporters to advocate for agricultural education and FFA. National FFA Week will be featured on social media. Follow the #FFAweek hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and look for posts on @NationalFFA Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.
