“WEATHER TRUE TO GROUNDHOG SIGN”

6 Inches of Snow fell this week.

The weather followed the groundhog’s prediction, winter returned this week to the area as March came in like a very big lion.

Some five inches of snow fell Monday and Tuesday, and high winds drifted roads enough so that schools in the eastern part of the country were forced to close.

“A DAY WITH OUR LEGISLATORS”

With Welfare costs in our state skyrocketing the attitude of Mr. Sidney Smith, head of the department of Social and Health Services, is certainly not what I would expect of a man in that position.

“STREET TALK”

Should Eastern and Western Washington become Separate states?

L.V, Davenport, “Surely an elected official trying to represent the whole state can do so. We do not need to separate the state. We should get better quality legislators instead of people elected by special interest groups.

B.R, Davenport, “No! We have enough states with enough taxes. We don’t need anymore.”

M.H, Davenport, “They should make two states out of Washington. Most of the Western Washington Voters put in people that get income from Western Washington.

A lot of things from Eastern Washington get eliminated. The mountains already separate us. We can control our area a little better. Besides that, we can get rid of Governor Booth Gardner.”

L.F, Davenport, “No! Washington has been Washington so why would we want to change?

T.P, Davenport, It does seem like we have a lopsided representation. There must have been something behind it if Governor Gardner spent the day down here over that. He must have been concerned about publicity.
