Closest meet of the season sees top three teams separated by one point
COLBERT– The Davenport, Chewelah and Northwest Christian (Colbert) high school boys ran neck and neck at a meet hosted by NWC at Mountainside Middle School March 20. The final tally showed a tie at the top, with the Gorillas and Cougars with 57 points and the Crusaders just behind with 58 points.
It was the final regular season meet in the NE2B league. The high school qualifying meet is Saturday, March 27 in Kettle Falls. The top seven qualifiers at that meet advance to the league title meet in Asotin April 3.
Freshman Jaeger Jacobsen (18:14.32) and junior Jake Coffman (18:14.77) continued to be Davenport’s top runners this season, finishing sixth and seventh in a race once again dominated by Kettle Falls senior Easton Pomrankey (16:58.89).
Meanwhile in the middle school boys 2,500 meter race, Reardan sixth-grader Maveric Sobotta ran the fastest time in his grade (10:31.84) and finished in fifth place. Davenport seventh-grader Josie Wynecoop finished in third place in the middle school girls 2,500 meter race (10:36.67).
Asotin sophomore Lily Denham won the high school girls 5,000 meter race with a time of 21:13.99. Reardan freshman Kassidy Koch was the top local finisher in ninth place (24:22.29).
