Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Cepeda is new EDC director

Former Harrington city clerk moves to new role in Lincoln County

DAVENPORT—Janice Cepeda, former city clerk in Harrington, is the new director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Council. She began learning her new job Monday, April 12.

Cepeda, who grew up in Odessa and moved to Harrington in 2019, spent six months in her probationary position as city clerk and 15 months solo in that position.

She replaces Margie Hall, who resigned last month after accepting a position for the state Department of Commerce in the Local Government Division with an emphasis on Eastern Washington and community development block grants.

“I want to (be) more effective in a broader sense for Lincoln County,” Cepeda said when asked what drew her to the director position with the EDC. “I (have) an understanding of rural communities and their needs.”

She added her multitasking skills developed as city clerk in Harrington should translate well to her new job.

The EDC works closely with local governments, so Cepeda was already connected with the organization.

Cepeda said local, rural citizens’ biggest economic needs and concerns are financial stability and broadband Internet expansion.

“I’d like to see more local, sustainable businesses,” she added.

Cepeda will tackle her first week on the job learning the gig, training with Hall and getting ready to fully take on the position during a time of greater economic uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
