Exploring Hawk Creek

DAVENPORT – The Hawk Creek Trail featured a peaceful ambience Sunday afternoon, April 11. Fishermen looked for their latest catch, families enjoyed a picnic and outdoors-inclined couples hiked the trail that leads to the beach.

Located about 25 minutes north of Davenport off Hawk Creek Road, hikers can access the 1.2 mile out and back trail that leads to a Lake Roosevelt inlet beach where one can walk further along the sand by going past the Hawk Creek Campground down a single-lane road to the boat launch. After a short hike through the woods, the beach arrives and can be taken further down the inlet for more views of the teal, sparkling water. The inlet spurs from the Columbia River at Lake Roosevelt.

Wildlife that frequent the Hawk Creek area include waterfowl like mallard ducks and Canada geese, reptiles like snakes and lizards and mammals like deer and the occasional black bear and cougar.

Currently, the Hawk Creek campground is closed due to COVID-19 concerns, but Hawk Creek Falls, located just past the campground, is accessible by foot. Canada geese could be seen milling about Sunday near the falls. The Hawk Creek area is a prime Lincoln County outdoors option for those looking to get outside this weekend amidst what are forecasted to be the warmest days of 2021 so far.
