Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
DAVENPORT – Art Deppner, a member of the Davenport Lions Club, was named the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award last week. Melvin Jones was the founder of the Lions organization which is now worldwide. This prestigious award is given to outstanding members of the Lions Club, and in this case the membership chose to have Art offered for consideration. The Lion District 19E agreed with this nomination and awarded Art with the Melvin Jones award.
Art also has the distinction of perfect attendance from the date he started in 1953. He has been active in just about every project that the club has undertaken. He heads up the Lions Club annual golf outing at the Harrington Golf and Country Club.
You can also see him picking up trash and garbage along Highway 2 east of Davenport with other members of the club. He is a valuable resource for the club with his experience and positive efforts. Art is the third member to receive this award. Other members were Joe Lilje, who received the award in 2019. Lion Bob Martin's wife, Diane, was also the recipient several years ago for starting
Christmas Care. That organization continues to this day with support from the Lions Club and other community resources. Congratulations to Art Deppner and the other Melvin Jones award recipients.
