ODESSA – The members of the Odessa Athletics Hall of Fame committee have been meeting regularly for the past several months, working to select the 2021 inductees. These individuals and team members will be honored June 19 at the Odessa High School gymnasium foyer. Larry Weber, chairman of the Hall of Fame committee, will present plaques to each of the athletes present or to family members, assisted by vice-chair Jon Heimbigner. Even though the alumni banquet has once again been canceled for this year, the committee has opted to hold its small ceremony just as it did last year.
This year's inductees:
Bob Mack, who taught and coached in Odessa from 1955 to 1960. He coached football and his record was 41-9-4, with his last two teams being undefeated. He also taught basketball compiling a record of 112-40, making four trips to district playoffs and three trips to state.
Travis Todd was a three-sport athlete, lettering all four years in baseball and football and three years in basketball. He graduated from OHS in 2008 and went on to Whitworth University, where he also played football all four years and baseball for one year.
Tom Schafer, a 1968 graduate, participated in basketball, football and track all four years of high school lettering all four years in football and track and three years in basketball. In track, he was a member of relay teams that set school records.
Bruce Todd has taught P.E. and coached baseball, football and basketball in Odessa beginning in 1997, with winning records in all three sports. He has been the athletic director in Odessa for the past eight years.
Chris Scrupps participated in basketball and football all four years at Odessa High. At Central Washington University he was a three-year starter on the football team. He continued his education earning a BA in psychology, a BS in exercise science and a Masters in exercise science. He is currently a captain in the U.S. Army.
Erik Walter was a member of the basketball, cross country, track and baseball teams, lettering in all four. He played baseball only as a freshman and was named Rookie of the Year. In track, he holds school records in the 400 meters and 800 meters. In basketball, he lettered all four years.
Kysa Cronrath, a 2006 graduate, participated in cheerleading, cross-country and track. She also participated in cross-country in college, for two years at Seattle Pacific Univ. and then at Portland State Univ., earning varsity letters at both schools. She holds four OHS records in track.
Jennie Harp also graduated in 2006 and was a member of the basketball and softball teams. She lettered three years in basketball, but softball was her sport of choice. She spent six years as a member of the Moses Lake Blaze fastpitch team playing shortstop and third base, while also competing for Odessa High as a pitcher. She also played softball for two years at Columbia Basin College before focusing on coaching and softball event management.
Matt Cronrath joins his sister Kysa as an inductee this year. A 2008 OHS graduate, he participated all four years in cross-country and track, garnering letters all four years in both sports. In cross-country he was also a four-time MVP. He attended WSU where he also was on the track team.
Baseball teams of 1954/55 and 1955/56 lost only game during those two seasons. In the spring of 1955, the championship game was their only loss of a nearly perfect season. In the spring of 1956, the team was undefeated.
