Surpluses, extensions and conflicts of interest

Council passes five resolutions at May 12 meeting

DAVENPORT—Council passed five resolutions at its regular council meeting May 12 after hearing reports from the finance committee, fire/police committee and mayor Brad Sweet.

The first resolution allows the city to surplus unused supplies and equipment. Bids on the following items will be accepted June 1-14: A 1992 Chevy 4X4 pickup, a 1972 GMC 5500 series flat-bed truck, a Whitco pressure washer 4100, steel stamped street signs, a 1999 Wells Cargo trailer, a bookshelf, miscellaneous runway/taxilane lighting fixtures, an Automated Weather Observation System and a Precision Approach Path Indicator lighting system. The last two items are inoperable and non-certified.

Council also set June 9 at 7:05 p.m. as the hearing date for the vacation of the east 30 feet of Ninth Street between Logan and Sinclair Streets for access to a proposed residence in the Essig’s Addition neighborhood.

A Family Dollar is still scheduled to come to Davenport at the east entrance to town at Lion’s Park in the Columbia Addition part of town, but the buyer requested another 30-day extension to June 9, which was approved by council. A previous extension had been granted to May 9. The land was sold for $75,000 last year.

The purchaser agreed to $5,000 in earnest money, which will cover Family Dollar. That was approved by council 6-1, with Patrick Katz the lone “nay” vote.

Council also unanimously approved a resolution denying a request for a waiver of conflict of interest to the law firm of McGuire, DeWulf, Kragt & Johnson, P.S., which represents the city and have dealt with matters related to hangar leases at the airport. Rusty McGuire requested the city waive the conflict of interest of his law firm in order to represent parties who’ve leased hangar space with the city.

Mayor Brad Sweet informed council that Ag Solutions donated 100 bushels of wheat to the city. Council decided to sell the wheat and move the profits to the parks and recreation fund. Sweet also said that the Seventh Day Adventist Church donated $250 to the neighbors fund.

Council will convene next for another regular meeting May 26 at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
